about
I'm a writer and editor based in Tokyo and New York City. I've written for Tokyo Weekender, The Japan Times, Matador Network, Ms. magazine, and more. Right now, I lead editorial and creative direction at Tokyo Misfits, running the magazine end-to-end across web and social. My work focuses a lot on culture, subcultures, travel, politics, and power — along with pretty much whatever else piques my curiosity!
For Tokyo Weekender, I've written about tattoo artists, mountain hiking, hidden islands, rogue tourists, sex work, Logan Paul, and wartime politics.
For Ms. magazine, I ran a column on global feminist movements and reported on issues like nonconsensual photography in Japan, “jokes” shaping policy across the world, and student visa revocations in the U.S.
In addition to reporting, I write essays, fiction, and the occasional treatise-on-loss-posing-as-memoir.
I also do freelance travel writing, which is just a fancy way of saying I'll go anywhere. I've flown to Morocco to meet a stranger for a first date, gone undercover as a hostess in Tokyo's red-light district, and completed a seven-day trek to Machu Picchu without any prior training, all in the name of a good story.
